Gaby Basher, far left, is honored at the 2013 AFMDA Los Angeles Red Star Ball.

Magen David Adom and American Friends of MDA join the entire community in Los Angeles in mourning the passing of one of AFMDA’s great leaders, Gabriella Bashner.

A Holocaust survivor who went on to found the women’s division of MDA’s fundraising operations in Los Angeles, Gaby was a fierce advocate for MDA’s lifesaving work. She had a particular affinity for MDA’s role as Israel’s national blood custodian.

In 2013, AFMDA rightfully acknowledged Gaby at its first-ever Los Angeles Red Star Ball, honoring her with the Woman of Valor, Lifetime Achievement Award.

Her family requests that donations in her honor be made toward an ambulance in Gaby’s memory or to MDA’s National Blood Services Center: http://saving-lives.afmda.org/teampage.asp?fundid=1857#.WwhYzFMvznV

Gaby leaves behind three children and many beautiful grandchildren who will carry forth her legacy of leadership and passion for Israel. May her memory be for a blessing.
