Development Executive – Western Region

Position Overview:

The Development Executive will be responsible for raising funds by utilizing a variety of strategies including face-to-face solicitations, foundation proposals, parlor meetings and major events in the designated area and in the region. Donor cultivation, solicitation and dedication events will be organized to raise awareness of AFMDA and its projects. The Development Executive will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift prospects to secure gifts at of the five- and six-figure level.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Identify, cultivate, successfully solicit and steward major gift prospects to foster five and six-figure gifts toward both the annual and capital campaigns;
  • Directly solicit and close gifts from major prospects and maintain relationships through mail, phone, or in-person contacts; coordinate local mailing campaigns; and ensure that required donor records are maintained;
  • Identify donors/prospects to develop an Advisory Leadership Committee in designated area;
  • Manage events in designated territory, outside of LA Gala, to include corporate sponsorships, events lists, registration, venue coordination, acknowledgments and receipts;
  • Identify and create engagement and giving opportunities for Young Leaders and Next Generation donors and prospects;
  • Organize event committee meetings, mentor event chairs and co-chairs, coordinate event program, honorees and attendees and assign responsibilities and monitor campaign associates and lay leadership in preparation for, during, and after multiple seasonal events;
  • Cultivate and maintain community relationships and community outreach; identify potential speakers for activities and/or events;
  • Coordinate activities and budget plans with the Director of Major Gifts, Western Region, to ensure a cohesive financial resources development plan in area;
  • Conduct donor research to identify prospects and support cultivation efforts;
  • Participate in special assignments or projects as assigned; and
  • Frequent local and regional travel.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; and
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive professional direct fundraising experience required.

Skills Required:

  • Proven ability to solicit and close gifts at the five- and six-figure level;
  • Must have a strong knowledge of donor cultivation, solicitation and donor service;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort in interfacing with donors;
  • Must have excellent writing and verbal communications skills;
  • Must have excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office and Internet) and comfort working with donor database programs. Experience with Raisers Edge a plus;
  • Must be able to work strategically within a team structure as well as independently, multi-task and work under tight deadlines;
  • Dependability, good time management and organizational skills and be attentive to detail;
  • Proven experience in managing and implementing development programs;
  • Experience with developing and maintaining productive working relationships with board members, donors, and staff; and
  • Knowledge of Israel is a plus.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25lbs;
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time and use their hands and fingers to handle or feel; and
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends with notice.
