Dr. Max and Judy Robins attended their first Dr. John J. Mames Chapter-Michigan Region annual event in September, 2013. The honorees for the event were the 48 recent young adults from the state of Michigan who had served as MDA Overseas Volunteers. They were so moved by the excitement and commitment of these young adults to MDA and Israel they chose to sponsor an ambulance and bluetooth defibrillator.

The day was filled with much excitement and activities at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield. Temple Israel is the largest reform temple in North American with over 10,000 members and their summer outdoor Friday night shabbat services draw 1,000 or more each week. AFMDA is most grateful to the Temple Israel community for allowing our story to be featured to so many during Operation Protective Edge. In the morning the ambulance visited the TI Early Childhood Summer Camp with the youngsters meeting Yoni Yagodovsky, MDA Director of International Relations, and placing many toys and bandaids inside to be taken to Israel. That evening, Max and Judy hosted a beautiful pre-service dinner which was followed by a dedication ceremony led Rabbi Jen Kalusny with her father, David Tisdale TI Executive Director, also sharing in the simcha. Ben Cher, a local MDA Overseas Volunteer, shared of his recent experiences in Israel.

As is so often the case, one major dedication begets another and that evening an ambulance was sponsored and many newcomers to the cause came onboard.
