Joan and Blaine Land’s lifelong dream of saving lives in Israel came to fruition on Sunday, March 22, 2015 when the couple dedicated a new MDA Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) ambulance and Corpuls 3 defibrillator to Magen David Adom. The celebration took place at the Merrick Jewish Center where the Lands have been members for over 30 years. More than 80 people gathered at the dedication including the Lands two sons who were happy to join their parents for such a momentous occasion.

“Donating an ambulance for Israel has been a lifelong dream for Joan and me and it means so much to us that we have seen it become a reality” said Blaine Land. Rabbi Charles Klein also spoke very movingly with a dvar torah entitled “Mi Anochi?” or “Who am I?” This was Moses’s first question to G-d, as he wondered how he, a simple shepherd, could save the Jewish people. But, as history has shown, it does not take a super hero, with super powers, to make a difference in the world. All you need is the determination to make your dream a reality.

The Lands dream of sending an ambulance to Israel will save countless lives. The MICU is equipped with advanced life-support technology for severe emergencies, joining MDA’s fleet of more than 1,000 lifesaving vehicles.
