A first aid kit in every vehicle

When saving lives, every minute counts.

Magen David Adom has long provided members of the Israeli Police Force with training in primary medical treatment for injured victims. Their latest collaboration — putting an MDA first aid kit in every police vehicle in Jerusalem — means even more people will be able to give swift lifesaving care to the wounded.

“The rate of the serious incidents occurring in Jerusalem in the past few weeks requires that each and every police officer and civilian should be prepared to save lives,” said MDA Director General Eli Bin at a recent event on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, where hundreds of first aid kits were distributed to police teams.

With the widespread availability of first aid supplies, primary treatment can begin even before MDA paramedics arrive. For a wounded victim, those few moments can make the difference between life and death.

That’s exactly what happened at a recent terrorist attack on Ammunition Hill, said Jerusalem Police Force commander Chido Edri at the ceremony. He recounted how a quick-thinking policeman stopped the bleeding of a man who was stabbed in the neck, thereby saving the man’s life.

“From this,” he said, “we learn of the need to have a first aid kit in every police vehicle. As is said in the Talmud, ‘He who saves one life, is as if he has saved the entire world.'”
