Fund Honors Work of World-Renowned Pathologist

As a world-renowned pathologist, Professor Roslyn Yomtovian, of blessed memory, left quite a mark on the field of blood banking and transfusions. Her research and publications were instrumental in transforming the field as she strove to ensure that a sufficient blood supply was available to all in need.

Roz was involved in many causes, and one that always brought a twinkle to her eye was the American Friends of Magen David Adom (AFMDA) David Mark Berger Chapter in Cleveland, where she and her fellow board members worked on behalf of Magen David Adom (MDA) in Israel.

MDA operates Israel’s only blood bank and is government mandated to provide a safe, secure, and sufficient blood supply for all Israelis, including the Israel Defense Forces. This is the mission of MDA’s National Blood Center and why Roz felt so strongly about supporting the blood bank’s efforts. Roz was also a close colleague with Professor Eilat Shinar M.D., head of MDA’s Blood Services Division, and they often saw each other in Israel and at worldwide symposiums.

MDA is not a government agency. The Professor Roslyn Yomtovian M.D. (z”l) Magen David Adom Blood Services Fund will provide MDA’s National Blood Center with vital, much-needed resources for equipment, technologies, training, and more. It is our honor and privilege to establish this fund to support MDA’s blood bank operations and recognize Roz’s accomplishments. A plaque recognizing Roz and this fund will be placed at the MDA National Blood Center.

AFMDA extends our condolences to her family, colleagues, and friends. Todah rabah, thank you, for helping us to remember her in such a meaningful way by saving lives in Israel.
