Two years ago, while training for a marathon, Eyal Tzur, 51, (on the right) had a heart attack. He lost consciousness and collapsed. Chaim Dagan, (left) a senior EMT, was among the first responders. He performed CPR and delivered electric shocks with a defibrillator until Eyal’s heart started beating agin. Eyal was brought to the hospital in critical condition.

Chaim Dagan, senior EMT and chairman of MDA’s Yarkon Region Volunteers’ Committee, presents the EMT certificate to Eyal Tzur.

Six months ago, during an information session for people considering becoming a volunteer EMT and ambulance driver, Chaim, who is the chairman of Yarkon Region’s Volunteers’ Committee, asked the attendees if any of them had any previous experiences with MDA or needed medical help themselves. Eyal raised his hand.

As Eyal told his story, Chaim immediately realized he was the one who performed CPR on Eyal. Chaim called him to the stage and overcome with emotion they hugged.

One week ago, Eyal graduated from the EMT course.

“The accidental encounter with Eyal at the information session and granting him his certificate today is extremely emotional and gratifying,” said Chaim. “The fact that Eyal has come full circle and will be saving lives is incredible.”

“Two years ago my life looked completely different and today I am at a place of giving and helping others, thanks to the MDA team who helped me and saved my life,” added Eyal.
