Magen David Adom crews responded to two separate wild boar incidents last week.

On Wednesday, October 13, a 20-year-old man was attacked by a wild boar while walking in an open area. A tooth from the boar was impacted in the man’s leg. MDA EMTs treated him before he was evacuated by helicopter to a hospital where he underwent surgery.
Three days later, while walking his dog, a 69-year-old man suffered injuries to his limbs and head, including a broken shin when a wild boar attacked him in Haifa. EMTs treated him at the scene before bringing him to the city’s Rambam Hospital.
Boars, a species of wild pig, can grow up to six feet in length, although most are smaller. In Haifa, locals claim “herds of wild boar can often be seen roaming the city’s streets, wreaking havoc and destroying property, and in some rare cases like Sunday’s incident, even turning hostile and attacking people,” Ynet reported.
The increase in boar sightings and incidents is a result of them growing bolder due to the coronavirus lockdowns, when streets were empty, and a law banning the culling of the animals.
