Uzi Perlmutter was enjoying a vacation in Montenegro, but he couldn’t take a break from his role as a Magen David Adom EMT and ambulance driver. While he was on his way by taxi to visit a scenic coastal town, he passed an accident scene, where a bus had skidded off the roadway and tumbled down a steep ravine.

Some people had climbed out of the bus windows, while others remained inside, screaming for help. But Perlmutter saw there weren’t any first responders at the scene, so he told his taxi driver to pull over and he proceeded to rescue people from the bus, a task complicated by the deep gorge the toppled vehicle had fallen into.

Perlmutter provided medical treatment to four people in serious condition as well as to several others. Rescue forces and medical teams soon arrived at the scene and joined the operations which lasted several hours.

“When I saw what turned out to be a serious accident,” said Perlmutter, “there was no doubt that I was stopping and doing everything I could to help.”
