Senior MDA EMT Talal Abu Jameh woke up early on Saturday, October 7, to the sound of rockets falling near his home in Arara in northern Israel. Jameh immediately went to his MDA station to organize equipment, specifically ballistic vests and helmets. “I knew the situation would not be good,” he said.
“Suddenly, I heard a very loud boom and saw black smoke,” Jameh recalled. Jameh quickly went to the scene to help. When he got to the site of the explosion, he saw his 4-year-old cousin lying on the floor unconscious. Jameh drove his cousin to the hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead. Even in the face of such sadness, Jameh decided to return to the MDA station to join his team in saving lives.
“I’ve been in MDA for 30 years and I’ve seen a lot of things in my life as an EMT,” said Jameh. “But I’ve never seen such cruelty in my life. They have no heart.”
