Liat Chihan Nachmani

One of the newest members of Magen David Adom’s Medicycle unit is a survivor herself. Liat Chihan Nachmani has battled and beaten cancer not once, but twice.

Nachmani, 40, yearned to help others after overcoming her own cancer diagnoses, so she began volunteering at MDA’s Petah Tikva station as part of the Medicycle squad.

“I identify with everyone I help,” Nachmani said. “I chose to join MDA’s Medicycle unit to contribute to the medical world.”

While evacuating wounded soldiers from the helipad into Beilinson Hospital in Petach Tikva two weeks ago, Nachmani assisted a soldier who had been injured while fighting in Gaza. She asked if he had spoken with his family and learned that he hadn’t. Nachmani called his mother so that he could speak with her.

The next day, Nachmani received a message from the soldier’s mother with a picture of him in recovery after undergoing surgery. “I was very excited,” recalled Nachmani, “it’s a privilege.”
