Magen David Adom welcomed 44 new volunteers in a moving ceremony held in Ashdod.
Part of the new volunteers’ service will include work in the Lachish region and the area around the Gaza Strip, which Hamas invaded on October 7.
“Dozens of first responders are joining the team to work round the clock in order to provide the best medical response to residents in Sderot and the Sha’ar Hanegev region,” noted MDA Director-General Eli Bin.
The heroic stories of two MDA medics, Ofir Tor and Yuri Levy, both of whom survived the horrors of October 7, were shared with the group.

Tor was shot by terrorists while on his way to his shift at the MDA Sderot station. After he was injured, he managed to save the life of another family by warning them about the terrorists.
Levy was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists from his home in Kibbutz Kfar Aza, but managed to escape and hide for many hours before he was rescued by IDF special forces.
The two heroes, Tor and Levy, will be on duty serving the areas directly affected by the attacks on October 7, along with all the new volunteers.
The new medics received certificates and emergency preparedness bags with first aid and resuscitation equipment.
“I know that everyone is ready to provide the best and most professional response to help create community resilience in the entire region,” said Haim Cardi, MDA Adult Volunteer Coordinator, “both in routine times and in times of emergency.”
