About five years ago, Ayala Maatuf and her husband Noam were driving to the hospital to have a baby when Ayala felt her contractions intensifying.
Noam called Magen David Adom’s 101 hotline for assistance and the dispatcher guided Ayala and Noam in delivering a healthy baby boy whom they named Tohar.
Remarkably, the couple from Moshav Barkat near Modi’in recently found themselves in the same position. Once again Ayala felt her contractions intensify and her water break in the car as they were driving on Route 461 near Or Yehuda.
Noam, already somewhat of an expert, called the MDA hotline and dispatcher Mai Ben Yehuda told them to park by the side of the road and began instructing them on delivering the baby. Ben Yehuda also sent an EMT who arrived at the scene and delivered the baby inside the car. Soon after, paramedics Liz Gural and Elad Salma arrived in a Mobile Intensive Care Unit where they continued medical treatment and cut the umbilical cord before bringing Ayala and her newborn to the hospital in good health.
“I would like to thank everyone who assisted me, Mai at the hotline, the medic, and the intensive care team,” said Maatuf.
