Magen David Adom participated in a drill planning for extreme scenarios such as power outage and road blockages due to an escalation in the north of Israel.
The exercise, which was featured on Israel’s News Channel 12, was staged in collaboration with the railroad, health system, hospitals, police, and IDF. To prepare for a war scenario in which roads may be obstructed and it could be difficult to bring injured people to the hospital, participants practiced for a situation in which trains were effectively converted into ambulances.
Trains could evacuate hundreds of casualties to hospitals in the central region, freeing up space in hospitals in the north.
“We distributed a combined plan of all the entities in the event we will have to implement the process so that everything will go well,” said Ofer Snir, MDA’s director of Emergency and Operations Unit.“
“As of now, it’s a contingency plan,” Snir noted. “No need for civilians to stress out. We hope it will remain an option, not something we’ll have to apply.”
