Amitai Ohayon, a paramedic from the Ofakim station who lost both his father and brother on October 7, took his first drive in a new Magen David Adom ambulance that was donated in their memory.
On the morning of October 7, the Ohayon family heard sirens as well as gunfire in their home in Ofakim. Amitai bravely went out to defend his hometown along with his father Moshe and brother Eliad, but only Amitai survived that day. Moshe and Eliad were both murdered by Hamas terrorists who had infiltrated their city.

The three Ohayon men were inseparable and had been participating in a MDA paramedics course together, dreaming of saving their neighbors’ lives. Despite losing his two most valued classmates, Amitai completed the seminar and passed his exams. At a recent ceremony, he inaugurated a new ambulance that was donated in memory of Moshe and Eliad. Eli Bin, director-general of MDA, presented Sarit with Moshe’s certificate of completion at the event.
“I’m sitting here in the ambulance without my father and Eliad with me,” reflected Amitai. “Now, I’m concentrating on moving forward and saving lives.”
“Amitai did not let himself give up,” noted his mother, Sarit. “He completed the course and fulfilled their dream. I’m sure Moshe is very proud of him.”
