Arab-Israeli MDA volunteer organizes annual blood donation campaign in Um al-Fahm.

After losing his mother to cancer nine years ago, Dr. Bashir Namrawi initiated a blood drive in her memory. An internist and a volunteer with Magen David Adom, Dr. Namwari organizes the blood drive annually in collaboration with MDA’s Marcus National Blood Center.
The blood donation campaign, which is called “There is Hope,” is based in the northern city of Um al-Fahm. This year, “There is Hope” collected 347 units of blood which can be used to help approximately 1,041 patients. Dr. Namrawi’s team includes former member of Knesset Dr. Yousef Jabareen and Um al-Fahm’s mayor, Dr. Samir Mahamid.
“I am very happy that we were able to collect this much blood, four times as much as last year,” said Dr. Namrawi. “I feel like my mother is here with me at the collection event and sees the good that’s happening here.”
