Today marks one year since the horrific October 7 attacks, during which at least 1,139 people were killed, many more assaulted and seriously injured, and 250 taken hostage.

As Israel’s national emergency services system, Magen David Adom was the first organization to be informed of the attack and respond to the massive carnage. Tens of thousands of calls were received in the Emergency Call Center, allowing MDA to inform the IDF of the situation with incredible detail.

While so many others scrambled to respond to this unprecedented and brutal attack, MDA’s culture of preparedness meant immediate initiation of well-drilled emergency protocols, activation of the 33,000 medics across the country, and immediate response with every vehicle in the fleet.

Despite missiles falling from the sky and terrorists shooting directly at their ambulances, heroic MDA medics drew on their training to save as many lives as possible, even at the risk of their own.
