MDA first aid instructor saves a life during a high school training session.

During a first aid training session for tenth graders at a high school in Jaffa, EMT Batya Tugendhaft had the opportunity to save a life in front of her students.
Coincidentally, a teacher at the high school began choking while Tugendhaft was giving the training. Tugendhaft, a new immigrant from London, an EMT, and a first aid instructor serving in the National Service with Magen David Adom, recognized the critical situation the teacher was in and sprang to action.
Tugendhaft successfully performed the Heimlich maneuver and thanks to her quick and professional response, the food was expelled from the teacher’s throat, and her life was saved.
“The moment I saw the teacher struggling to breathe, I immediately followed the protocol I learned at MDA,” said Tugendhaft. “I’m glad I was there to help and prevent a disaster.”
