This July, Magen David Adom will provide training and critical volunteer opportunities to doctors, nurses, and paramedics from the United States and around the world who are looking to make a difference in Israel as part of Tlalim’s Doctors for Israel Onward Fellowship. The fellowship explores Israel’s advanced healthcare system, learning about the country’s innovations in emergency care and post-trauma rehabilitation.
The fellowship will be conducted in English and is geared towards medical professionals from across North America, South America, and Europe. MDA provides four days of training and volunteer opportunities to the fellows, including a mass casualty event drill and simulation, a visit to the Marcus National Blood Services Center, a workshop about how to save lives in the first seven minutes following a terrorist attack, and a seminar on pre-hospital trauma life support (PHTLS).
The fellows also tour and volunteer at Israel’s leading hospitals, meeting top physicians and researchers, observing medical practices, learning about their role in treating patients on October 7, and understanding their approach to victims of Hamas sex crimes. In addition to the structured tours and trainings, the group will volunteer in the Gaza Envelope area as well as in Tel Aviv.
“There is no better way for people with medical backgrounds to show solidarity with Israel,” said Vicki Angel of MDA.
The program, which takes place July 15-28, is organized by Tlalim, with collaboration from Hadassah University Hospital and Birthright Israel.
