One afternoon, 50-year-old Shukat Wattad of Jatt, near Haifa, was at work at the Emek Hefer Industrial Park. All of a sudden, he began to feel unwell and collapsed in front of his co-workers.
One of his colleagues called Magen David Adom right away and a team of EMTs and paramedics arrived quickly. They determined that Wattad had suffered cardiac arrest.
The MDA team performed CPR, gave chest massages, and administered four electric shocks from a defibrillator, fighting for Wattad’s life until his heart began to beat again.
Paramedics transported Wattad to the hospital in serious condition in a Mobile Intensive Care Unit. Wattad made a full recovery, and upon his release from the hospital, wanted nothing more than to reunite with the MDA team who saved his life. He invited his MDA heroes over to his home to say thank you.
At the joyous reunion, MDA EMT Chai Pinchas recalled his first encounter with Wattad. “When we arrived, we saw you lying on the floor. We immediately connected you to the defibrillator and started chest massages. In situations like this, every second is critical and the quick response that began when your co-workers called MDA for help saved your life.”
“I don’t remember much of what happened to me that day, but from what I was told, you are real heroes,” Wattad said to the MDA team.
“Thank you very much. I hope you continue to save lives and do good.”
