When Lena Liani, a 15-year-old student in a Magen David Adom first aid course, came home from school one day, she noticed her father was behaving strangely. He was not speaking clearly and was moving oddly before he fell onto the couch.
Having just studied the signs of a stroke in the first aid class, Liani performed some quick medical tests on her father and advised her mother to take him to the hospital. Doctors discovered that he had meningitis and needed immediate treatment. Thanks to Liani, they were able to treat and save Raphael’s life.
“I feel proud of myself for having the tools to understand when something is wrong,” reflected Liani.
Her grateful father, Raphael, shared, “I am so thankful to Lena for caring for me and I have one piece of advice to give to all parents: send your children to a first aid course at MDA.”
“I went to the MDA course so that I could help people and save lives,” Liani said. “I never imagined that I would ultimately save my own father’s life.”
