After firefighters searched an Ashkelon apartment following a fire, they reported to Magen David Adom (MDA) that while no people were injured or needed medical treatment, they found a small dog who had inhaled a lot of smoke.

“We saw that the dog was wet and very scared, so we acted very gently,” said MDA EMTs Atalia Aviv and Shelly Balayev who were dispatched to the scene. “We wrapped him in a coat and gave him oxygen.”

A few minutes later, when the dog’s owners came home, the MDA team handed him over to them fully conscious and recovered, wagging his tail.

“We were happy to be able to help and will always do everything we can to save lives, even when it comes to pets. In this case, we cared for the dog until his owner arrived and could take him to the veterinarian for further treatment,” said Aviv and Balayev.
