As missile alert sirens sounded during Operation Roaring Lion, Magen David Adom teams saved a man from a life-threatening allergic reaction in Moshav Liman in the Western Galilee.

MDA volunteer Michal Mizrahi, 45 and a mother of three, responded within minutes despite the missile threat.

“The patient was in severe respiratory distress. His lips and face were swollen and he was barely able to speak,” she said. “I injected him with an EpiPen and then assisted the Mobile Intensive Care Unit team when they arrived.” The man had taken an antibiotic following a dental procedure and didn’t know he was allergic to the medication. He is now in stable condition.

“It can be scary,” acknowledged Mizrahi, who has been volunteering with MDA for five years. “The Red Alert sirens give us very little time to take cover. But our neighbors know they can rely on us. Whenever medical help is needed, they can call MDA.”
