Magen David Adom assisted a 31-year-old woman in delivering a healthy baby girl in the elevator of her apartment building. Naomi Dreyfus, who lives in Givat Shmuel in central Israel, called MDA when she began to feel contractions. The MDA Mobile Intensive Care Unit team arrived quickly and was preparing to rush Dreyfus to the hospital when they realized they wouldn’t make it to the delivery room in time.

As the elevator in Dreyfus’s apartment building descended, her labor intensified. Minutes later, Dreyfus gave birth to a healthy baby girl.

“When I reached Naomi, I saw that she was very close to giving birth,” said senior EMT Gilad Tuasi. “The cute baby came out very quickly while we were still in the elevator.”

After MDA helped Mr. Dreyfus cut the umbilical cord, mother and baby were transported to the hospital to be evaluated and to recover. A few days later, they happily returned home.

This baby is the Dreyfus’s fifth and their second to be delivered at home with MDA’s assistance. In 2018, MDA helped Dreyfus deliver her second child at home.

“We didn’t think something like this would happen to us again,” reflected Dreyfus. “After the first time MDA helped me give birth at home, my husband and I dressed up as a MDA medic and a pregnant woman for Purim and even won first place in a costume contest.”

“I would like to thank the MDA team who took care of me in the best way possible and with great patience,” said Dreyfus.

“It’s always exciting to be given the privilege of helping bring life into the world,” added Tuasi.
