Air conditioner technician Yoni Shalom suffered a severe injury at work when he was burned by a butane gas explosion. Shimon Bardi, a Magen David Adom volunteer, saved Shalom’s life. Six months later, Shalom invited Bardi to a thanksgiving dinner to express his gratitude.

Bardi, a senior EMT from MDA’s Medicycle unit, arrived swiftly at the scene of Shalom’s accident and treated him before evacuating him to the hospital.

“The first thing I remember seeing after the explosion was Shimon from MDA. He took care of me, encouraged me, and accompanied me from the very first moment. He held my hand and said he wouldn’t leave me. It strengthened me a lot and gave me hope in a very difficult moment,” recalled Shalom. “Even after he brought me to the hospital, Shimon didn’t leave me. We kept in touch throughout my treatment and recovery,” said Shalom.

“I was very happy to support Yoni physically, mentally, and emotionally,” said Bardi of the warm relationship he and Shalom developed. “It is a great privilege to save lives. I wish him health and longevity.”

It has been six months since Shalom’s horrible work accident. Shalom invited Bardi to a thanksgiving dinner at the Chayim Olam Kollel in Bnei Brak.

“I decided to invite Shimon to a thanksgiving dinner to thank him for saving my life,” reflected Shalom. “Without him, I might not be here.”
