MDA saved lives during the Holocaust.

During the Second World War, the threat of German bombings in the Land of Israel was never far away, and in fact happened when Germany and Italy bombed the cities of Tel Aviv and Haifa.

Prior to these attacks, MDA prepared for the possibility and carried out critical precautionary operations. MDA set up 14 temporary treatment stations, recruited 50 doctors and 400 volunteer EMTs, as well as increased the capacity of its blood services.

During the bombings, MDA teams treated hundreds of people under fire. 239 were injured people were saved but sadly another 117 were killed in the attacks. MDA’s blood services department provided hundreds of blood units to hospitals, saving the lives of many.
