Israel’s Channel 11 aired “White Gold,” featuring MDA’s Sussman Family Foundation Human Milk Bank. In this three-minute excerpt, meet one mother who says, “ten minutes of my time [a day] provides quite a few meals for needy babies.”
Einat Zeifa provides about 7.5 liters of milk per month and so far has donated 160 liters. The milk is picked up and processed by Magen David Adom.
Dr. Sharron Bransburg Zabari, director of the Sussman Milk Bank, explains how the donations are processed and tested before distribution to hospitals. “This is the temple of mother’s milk,” she says.
The Sussman Milk Bank picks-up, safety-tests and houses breast milk donated by mothers across Israel, which is then used to provide critical nutrition and antibodies to preemies, many of whom can’t tolerate any other food source because of their underdeveloped digestive and immune systems.
