Samuel Konig has been named chief development officer at American Friends of Magen David Adom (AFMDA). He assumed his new role on June 1, 2026.
AFMDA is the U.S.-based fundraising partner for Israel’s national ambulance, EMT, and blood-services organization, Magen David Adom (MDA).
Konig has been AFMDA’s director of strategic philanthropy for the Northeast Region since 2023, where he oversaw significant growth in outreach throughout the region, engaged active leadership, and expanded fundraising initiatives to cultivate relationships with both existing and prospective donors.
Prior to joining AFMDA, Konig was northeast regional director of American Friends of Bar-Ilan University as well as director of major gifts at Hillel International and of the Hillel at Towson University and Hillel Canada.
Born in Vienna to Polish Jewish parents, Konig grew up in Copenhagen and speaks Danish, English, German, Polish, and Hebrew. He holds an M.A. in European, Russian, and Eurasian studies from Carleton University and a B.A. from McGill University.
“Sam’s leadership in the Northeast Region has helped foster an active spirit of collaboration throughout our organization,” said Catherine Reed, CEO of AFMDA. “I am thrilled to welcome him to this new role and am confident that he will play an important role in elevating our national donor initiatives and embracing new supporters into our community.”
“I am honored to take on this new role within an organization that has become so close to my heart,” said Konig. “I look forward to strengthening my relationships with donors and our leadership as we work together to support the dedicated MDA teams on the ground in Israel.”
“I hope to further establish MDA as the premier organization committed to saving lives in Israel,” he said.
Konig is married to Aliza Abrams Konig, who works for Yeshiva University. They live in Riverdale, New York, where they are members of the Riverdale Jewish Center and are the proud parents of Netanel and Moriyah, who attend SAR Academy.
