MDA has been providing Medevac services, emergency medical evacuation by helicopter, for 15 years. But in March, MDA began a new partnership with Hatzolah Air, an American aviation organization that provides emergency medical air transport. Brook Aviation supplies the pilots.
The new Sikorsky S-76 helicopters that fly MDA’s paramedics out of Tiberius in Israel’s north and near Be’er Sheva in the south, are larger, stronger, and faster than MDA’s previous air ambulances. As always, the Medevac Unit provides nationwide coverage for people critically ill and injured who are far from hospitals or the specialized medical care their conditions require.
Since they began operations in March, MDA teams have saved dozens of lives and limbs in the new helicopters, including an 18-year-old young man with a severed hand from an ATV accident, a 57-year-old man who suffered a cardiac event in the Jordan Valley, a 21-year old injured by an exploding gas canister, and many others.Â
