114 men and women graduated Magen David Adom’s paramedics course in a moving ceremony. The infusion of new life-saving paramedics in the shadow of war is a sign of hope.
“You are the front line in the struggle for human life,” remarked Rami Miller, MDA’s medical director, at the ceremony, which was held in Ramle.
“We are in the period of mourning for Rabbi Akiva’s students, [during the Omer,]” said Dr. Eli Yaffe, MDA’s deputy director general of community, at the event. “Rabbi Akiva’s motto was ‘Love your neighbor as yourself, this is the great imperative of the Torah,’” Dr. Yaffe went on. “So, what is a paramedic? A paramedic is ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ It’s about taking every patient, holding his hand, empathizing with him, and being there for him. It’s how you would want to be treated.”
