The Talmud says that when you’ve saved one life, it’s as though you’ve saved an entire world. There’s perhaps no more vivid illustration of that than the 6-pound-5-ounce boy born last week to Shira and Amichai Ish-Ran, who celebrated baby’s brit milah this morning (Monday, August 16) in Israel.

The young lad only recently got to meet Magen David Adom EMT Bezalel Ben Chemo (left). But Bezalel’s role in the boy’s life goes back to 2018 when he made crucial on-the-fly medical decisions while treating Shira and Amichai after a terrorist shooting in Ofra, ultimately saving their lives.
The boy’s birth is especially sweet for the Ish-Rans, given that the attack resulted in the death of their first child. Shira was shot by the terrorist and had to undergo an emergency caesarean section, even though she was just seven months pregnant. The baby survived for only three days. He was laid to rest on the Mount of Olives after he was given the name Amiad Yisrael.
“Mazal tov to Shira and Amichai and to the Ish-Ran and Silberstein families,” says AFMDA Chief Executive Officer Catherine L. Reed.
“May you only go from strength to strength. And congratulations to Bezalel and to our colleagues at Magen David Adom. The impact of your lifesaving work that night in 2018 is still being felt years later. Yasher koach.”
