Kim Nevatov, an 85-year-old Holocaust survivor, dreamed of attending his granddaughter’s wedding, but he didn’t know if it would be possible since he is paralyzed from the waist down.
Bride-to-be Miri, and her fiancé, Roy, posted the family’s quandary on social media. Friends associated with Magen David Adom connected them with the MDA Wish Ambulance department which fulfills the requests of people facing serious or terminal illnesses.
Miri and Roy, both 27, became engaged this year during the war. Since they both serve as reserve officers in the IDF, they had to postpone their wedding several times.
Thanks to MDA’s Wish Ambulance, Nevatov was able to be present at Miri and Roy’s chuppah with tears of joy in his eyes. Nevatov could hug the young couple and give them his blessings. The MDA Wish Ambulance team, which included paramedic Yonat Daskal Dagan and EMTs Tomer Bar Levy and Pinchas Pantal, helped Nevatov at the wedding and then brought him home after.
“We are grateful to the MDA Wish Ambulance team for making grandpa’s wish come true,” said the newlyweds, “and in fact, it made our wish come true as well.”
“What a pleasure that we were able to take part in the joy of a bride and groom. Congratulations to the happy couple and I wish many healthy years to Kim,” said paramedic Dagan. “Kim’s wish moved us. His smile along with Miri’s and Roy’s smiles were worth everything.”
