Zmora was killed while rescuing Israeli hostages from Gaza.

Arnon Zmora, z”l, was killed in June while commanding a dramatic rescue operation in which four Israeli hostages were freed from captivity in Gaza. A father of two, Zmora was an officer in the Yamam counter-terrorism unit. He was the only Israeli casualty of the dangerous and successful rescue operation.
In honor of Zmora’s heroism, Magen David Adom has inaugurated a new ambulance which will be stationed in Kiryat Shmona to serve the surrounding region in northern Israel, an area in need of reinforcement due to heightened tensions with Lebanon. MDA’s Yarden region director, Oren Avitan, and volunteer ambulance driver Shalom Ayesh, received the keys to the new ambulance.
“Arnon Zamora, z”l, is a symbol of Israel’s heroism. His special personality, his dedication to the security of the State of Israel and the sacrifice to rescue and save the lives of the abductees who fell and sacrificed his life during the operation – deserve to be commemorated,” remarked director-general Eli Bin. “Arnon was not a volunteer or MDA employee, but he and his family joined our family today”
