Twelve teenagers and young adults were killed when a Hezbollah missile hit a soccer field in in Majdal Shams, a Druze town in the Golan Heights, at around 6 pm Saturday.

30 others were injured including six in serious condition, three in moderate condition, four with minor injuries, and six suffering with panic, were treated by teams of Magen David Adom medics at the scene and transported via ambulance and helicopter to hospitals for further treatment. Additionally, MDA provided nearly 100 blood units to those in need following the attack.

Among the deceased is the 11-year-old daughter of MDA Yarden region employee Adam Sfadi, Vinis Adham Sfadi.

Senior EMT Idan Avshalom arrived in the initial minutes. He saw a large commotion on the soccer field with severe scenes of injuries and fatalities, destruction, and burning objects. He and his team conducted an initial triage of the victims and additional MDA medics treated and transport the victims to local clinics.

“When we arrived in the town, we were directed to three local clinics where the injured were being sent,” said MDA paramedics Orly Ben Simon and Omri Hochman. “We assisted the medical teams, stabilized the patients, and transported the injured to hospitals in helicopters that landed nearby.”

Paramedic Faiz Mahmoud is a local resident who came to assist the injured. “I immediately went to one of the clinics where the injured were brought and saw a large commotion of people,” said Mahmoud. “The clinic was full of casualties, including the dead and seriously injured. We were given patients and immediately took them to board the helicopters that had landed nearby.”

Without the quick and comprehensive response of MDA and the immediate supply of blood units to the victims, the death toll following the strike would undoubtedly have been higher.

The missile was launched by Hezbollah, the Lebanon-based terror group, in the kind of attack that MDA remains continually prepared for. “Magen David Adom teams stand ready,” said MDA Chief of Staff Uri Shacham, “for additional people who need care and in preparation for any future development.”
